Bourbon Cream & Eggnog, Oh My!

Bourbon cream and eggnog

It’s officially bourbon cream and eggnog season! Here are my favorite bourbon cream and boozy eggnogs to get you through the holidays. Pro tip, once they hit the shelves, season is in!

Nog season is not the time to be a Grinch with your holiday tipple. ‘Tis the season to indulge a little more and, as Mötley Crüe suggested, take a ride on the wild side. Perhaps this is the only time you will mix your beloved whiskey or when you stock your home bar with tipples for the peasants in your life that don’t have your sexy refined palate. Whatever the case, not all the cream rises to the top, and I set out to make my way through the aisles and round up the best of the bunch.

If you’re looking for a quality eggnog with an added oomph, this is the nog for you. Whether or not you are a fan of flavored whiskey, I suggest giving this nog a shot. This nog has a great consistency and most importantly the flavors taste real. If you’re sensitive to chemical and artificial flavors, this nog delivers on authentic peanut, whiskey and creamy sweetness. Peanut butter and eggnog, what’s not to love? Pour it on the rocks and dust a little nutmeg on top to warm your spirits.

Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream

Perhaps one of the most well-known bourbon creams in the whiskey world, this product has become difficult to find as of late. Buffalo Trace bourbon cream is now allocated in some, or perhaps all, states. As a fan favorite, this bourbon cream is a quintessential example of a classic bourbon cream. With a nice texture and the whiskey easily coming through the sweet cream, if I can find it, I will always grab a bottle to share during the holidays. Chilled and neat is the perfect serve for me and if I am feeling like I need a little more cheer, I will even throw an ounce of bourbon into my class and give it a stir.

Doc Brown Bourbon Cream

Talk about knocking it out of the park! It’s bourbon cream heaven. The folks at Doc Brown went all the way down this rabbit hole and offer four flavors of their bourbon cream. Butter pecan, salted caramel, coffee and peppermint mocha. Another product that tastes like authentic eggnog with real flavors. No artificial ingredients detected in this lineup and the textures are by far the best of all the creams and nogs. It’s very silky and smooth, with a light texture that still provides a pleasant mouthfeel and a long finish. Being a lover of savory flavors, I went straight for the salted caramel, and it did not disappoint. I have tasted nothing like it in a bottled drink and I understand why they are a little pricier than others on the market. Aside from that fact that Doc Brown is an independent brand, the quality ingredients are undeniable. The second favorite from this lineup is the coffee bourbon cream. What could be better than a coffee flavored boozy cream? Well, mixing it with actual coffee sent me over the edge. I’m committed to this combo for my weekend mornings, and I’m sure I’ll be fine through the winter now.

Evan Williams Egg nog

Don’t wait for Christmas to grab a bottle of this classic eggnog. This nog is delightfully light, not too viscous, just the right amount of cream and spice notes. With a distinct whiskey flavor and less sweetness than a bourbon cream, the buttery and spice notes make this a delightful sip. The warmth lingers with this eggnog and the finish lingers long enough to feel a bit of whiskey warmth in your chest after a few sips. The Evan Williams website offers tasting notes with “smoky bourbon notes”. I don’t get any of that, just welcoming hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Pour this one on the rocks and lean into the decadence. This one won’t hurt your pocket.

Stock up on these creamy elixirs before it’s too late. You will soon find them to be a necessary addition to your holiday and winter survival kit.

Happy sipping!

Sailor
