Tasting Notes: As Above, So Below Distillery - The Astrologist Bourbon

As Above, So Below Astrologist Bourbon

August 2024

I love searching across the country for new spirits and interesting stories and learning about dynamic people pushing the boundaries in the spirits industry.

Caley Shoemaker, Co-Founder and Master Distiller of As Above So Below, out of New Mexico, is a perfect example. Formerly of Stranahan’s, Shoemaker has shaped a brand that is right up my alley!

“As Above So Below embraces the unknown and the overlooked, conjuring a fresh energy to approach time-honored methods of distillation.”

I love the perspective found in As Above So Below expressions. Each offering delivers flavors and atmospheres that evoke magical desert vibes. And this whiskey is incredibly special.

The Astrologist - limited released. A high rye bourbon aged 4 years in New American Oak, and finished an additional 6 years in French Oak casks that previously held Stag’s Leap Cabernet from Napa Valley’s Pine Ridge Vineyards. This produces a super exciting flavor profile.

They bottled this bourbon blend during Pluto’s Transit through Aquarius–a time that signals intense, transformative shifts toward success, calling us to leave our unique marks on the world.

The nose was filled with the aroma of baked goods, caramel, and nuts. Immediately, the aroma is brought in by the flavor. Lingering notes of marzipan, caramel, brown sugar, and flan are present in the finish.

I had the pleasure of tasting the entire lineup, and I’m thrilled to say every spirit is so delicious and very much expresses its own perspective through incredibly interesting flavors. I love them all!

96 Proof | 48% ABV

Lucky for you, my friends, you can purchase these spirits online.
